In the ongoing testing of Fetch at Aldus to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction, we found a few problems with the multiuser version of Fetch 1.2 that are corrected when you run the enclosed updater. This update is intended for only the multiuser version of Fetch. Other versions do not require this update.
Updated Corrections
• You can now copy and paste text from a PageMaker 5.0 document into the Fetch 1.2 description field.
• Thumbnails are now generated for documents created by QuarkXPress 3.0 or later. You must check “Include Preview” in the QuarkXPress “Save As” dialog box when saving files.
• Printing actual images now works correctly for all FreeHand files.
• You can now print 24-bit thumbnails with full bit-depth color.
• You can now use a password that includes a period.
Additional Notes for QuarkXPress Users
If you are using QuarkXPress without the Preview Editor from Vision's Edge, then you need to make sure to check “Include Preview” in QuarkXPress before saving your documents so that Fetch can catalog the documents with 1-bit thumbnails.
If you are using QuarkXPress with the Preview Editor, then you need to make sure to save your QuarkXPress documents with “Include Preview” unchecked in QuarkXPress. Otherwise, when you print items in a catalog using actual images, only 1-bit black-and-white thumbnails are printed.
With or without the Preview Editor, you need to add QuarkXPress documents and templates to the file type list in Fetch. Select “Preferences...” from the Edit menu, click on “File Types...”, then click on “Same Type As...” Navigate to any QuarkXPress document and template and double-click on each. The QuarkXPress document file type will be added as XDOC and the QuarkXPress template file type will be added as XTMP. You can now automatically catalog your QuarkXPress files.
Running the Updater
Please note that the updater only works on the multiuser version of Fetch 1.2. Other versions of Fetch, such as the Single User Version, do not require this update.
To run the updater double-click on the Aldus Fetch 1.2 Updater, and click on the “Update” button. The updater will first prompt you for the location of the Fetch 1.2 application, then will update the Fetch application. You can verify the updater worked by launching Fetch and choosing “About Fetch...” from under the Apple Menu. It should say version 1.2a
